Jamie and Sue

I joined CFK last August just prior to finishing up my summer holidays — I’m a teacher at St. Mary’s High School. During my first week back to work, I started attending the 5:45am class and, I’m not going to lie, my body felt like it had been hit by a truck by the end of the week. I still feel like that from time to time, especially after a Saturday 40 minute AMRAP (damn you, Murph!), but my body is better able to recover now compared to almost six months ago.
At 43 years old, I can’t believe how much my body has changed. I’ve dropped 10 pounds, gained strength and my flexibility is improving though it may be hard to tell if you’ve ever seen me try a squat snatch;) But this is why I love CrossFit and CFK because despite my shortcomings I’ve found that the coaches and other members are super positive and helpful. I am motivated and inspired by everyone I’ve had an opportunity to train with whether they are veterans or newbies or somewhere in-between. The community pushes me to improve and work harder than what I thought I was capable.
My wife, Sue, joined CFK last month and together we start our day with the 5:45am class — an amazing group of people. I wish we started this journey 10 years ago, but I’m happy we’re here now. That said, I’m not happy about the fact that after just one month Sue is already better at double unders than me. I’m still working on checking my ego at the door!
