What Is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program using functional movements (no isolation exercises, i.e. bicep curls) that are constantly varied (no routine) and executed at a  high intensity. CrossFit focuses on 3 modalites, Gymnastics, i.e. pull-ups, pushups, dips, medicine ball throws, plyo box jumps, handstand pushups etc…Cardiovascular conditioning,  i.e. runnig, jumping, swimming, biking, rowing and the third , Weight Lifting ,i.e. squats, deadlifts, clean and jerk, snatch etc…  CrossFit believes that the ultimate athlete is equal part, gymnast, sprinter, and weight-lifter.

 In CrossFit  there are 10 domains of fitness: Cardiorespiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. CrossFits example of an athlete is someone who is fit in all 10 domains. Through practicing these principles,  any weaknesses that you may have will be exposed. CrossFit is a generalist program, meaning it’s speciality is that it has no specialty, so it will help you become a well rounded athlete with no weaknesses.

 CrossFit is not exclusive to athletes. It has been used widespread by Military, Police and Firefighter personnel,  mixed martial-arts fighters, triathletes and participants of various other sports and to anyone who is striving for ultimate fitness, including teenagers, housewives and the elderly.

 The beauty of CrossFit is that everyone is doing the same  Workout Of the Day( WOD). It is simply scaled to your level of  ability by changing the workload and the intensity. Viewing the WOD can be intimidating for anyone. What you have to remember is the workload and intensity that we post is usually set for the veteran CrossFitter. CrossFit is a progression that takes months, even years to reach the upper levels.

The incredible thing about CrossFit is the efficiency and effectivenes of the program. The WODS range from 10 min to 40 min which is perfect especially for people who don’t have time on their hands. If you are consistent and work hard the results are truly amazing.
