This coming Saturday we are sending 3 teams of 4 people to CrossFit Orillia to support Jeremy, a fellow CrossFitter and trainer who was recently seriously injured in a snowmobile accident. There’s still spaces available for those who’d like to participate. I will be collecting donations at the gym this week to help support Jeremy and his kids. I’m going to kick it off by donating $1oo. Here’s what James, owner of CrossFit Orillia has to say…. Hi Everyone,Recently, one of our trainers (Jeremy) was involved in a very serioussnowmobile accident, leaving him with a shattered pelvis, broken
sacrum, and damage to both knees. He has a long recovery ahead of
him, and is not expected to bear any weight on his legs for at least
another 3-4 months. Jeremy is a self-employed contractor and single
Dad.
We’ll be open on Good Friday for 1 class at 10am. Open gym will be closed on Sunday.
out. On April 3rd we will be holding a Benefit Challenge to raise
funds for our freind. There will be three WOD’s spaced out between
9:00am and 4:00pm and all events will be done in teams of 4 (at least
one female per team). The entry fee for each team is $60 with all
proceeds going to a fund set up in Jeremy’s name. Local business have
generously donated prizes and they will be awarded to the top teams in
Rx’d, Scale 1 and Scale 2 divisions. As the workouts are scaled, everyone is welcome to come and compete.
Spectators are more than welcome and are asked to make a small
donation as well. Of course, no proper CF event is complete without
an awesome after party. There are two hotels within walking distance
of our box, so plan to stay over and enjoy the bright lights of
downtown Orillia;-)

Curious about CrossFit?
Come out to our free trial class on Saturday morning at 10am. You don’t have to be fit to try CrossFit. This is how you get fit!!
March 24th, 2010
This past weekend 20 athlete’s from CrossFit Kitchener gave it their all at the CF sectionals. 160 of the fittest CrossFitter’s from all over Ontario gathered at the Moss Park Armoury in downtown Toronto . The energy was electrifying as the athlete’s pushed their limits through 3 workouts on Saturday and 1 brutal chipper on Sunday. 15 men and 15 women advanced to the regionals in Calgary at the end of May where they will battle it out with the best CrossFitter’s in Canada to take 1 of 6 spots to the World CF Championships in Aramos, California. Three of our men placed in the top fifteen. Nate was 2nd, Lars was 8th, and Marcel was 11th. I’m extremely proud of all our members who “rose to the challenge”, trained their butts off, and put in their best effort!! Here’s a list of all the champs: Pat Murphy- AKA “Murph” This fireball of a man at 49 yrs. young was a true sport. He gave it his all and never gave up!!! Chris Hummel- Chris has made leaps and bounds in his training and performance over the last several months. He rises to any challenge and gave it his very best this weekend. He’s already pumped for next year! Way to go Chris! Blyth Gill-Blyth has always got a smile on his face no matter how tough a wod is! His positive attitude and encouraging ways shone through this weekend. Luke George- Even though the wod’s were challenging, Luke still gave it his all and completed wod 1 and 2 . Way to go Luke! Paul Araujo- AKA “Pauly” The most stylish CrossFitter out there! Pauly has the best facial expressions during a wod and is awesome to watch in action! He’s a great coach and a great athlete! Arthur Montesinis- AKA “Art” An extremely focused and driven athlete. Art has taken his own athletic ability to new heights and has helped many people along the way. Thanks for all the coaching on Suday mornings! Paul Terelya- For the short time Paul has been invloved in CrossFit, he’s made leaps and bounds in his training and performance. Look out Ontario Sectionals 2011, Paul will be back!! Thanks for all the help with the team wod’s on Sunday’s. Bill Macgregor- Unfortunately due to an injury Bill wasn’t able to participate at the sectionals. He’s also a great athlete and will kick butt at the sectionals next year. Nate Malton- We all knew Nate would do well at the sectionals so his 2nd place finish wasn’t a surprise at all. Don’t be fooled by his quiet modest ways, this boy is an animal!! Way to go Nate!! Marcel Avalos- This power house is unstoppable. Marcel spends almost as much time at CrossFit as Paul T. Amazing performance Marcel! Lars Bredahl- AKA “Stinky” or more recently “Larsina” This beast is unstoppable. Despite that fact that his wrist was injured and he didn’t have a good sleep on Friday night because he forgot his special pillow, Lars still prevailed and finished in 8th place. Way to go Larsina!! Lance Mittelholtz-my favourite!! Did you guys see that slide with 3 seconds to spare on the 4th wod on Sunday!! Sweeeet!! That was my highlight of the weekend! Vicky Firth- A very talented and extremely strong athlete! Vicky has worked really hard over the past several months (you should see her pullups ) and was awesome on the weekend. She’ll be back next year even stronger!! Laura Howell- Laura is one of the most easy going people out there She did amazing!!! BTW, she just got her ring dips Wednesday and ended up doing 20 at the sectionals! Way to go Laura!! Heather Treadway-AKA “Hetha”. Always smiling, always positive, always up for a challenge. Heather spent the last month volunteering at the Olympics and still gave it her all this weekend. Her perseverance was admirable. Dragana Iovanov- Despite not feeling her best, Dragana still came out and did the first workout. Great job Dragana! Next year will be better! Thanks for the eggs!! Kelly Sinclair- Kelly, who recently bounced back from being sick, put in a great effort! Way to go Kelly! Glenda Rahn- Glenda is one of the strongest women I know both mentally and physically. She trained her butt of for the sectionals and unfortunately came down with a nasty virus which didn’t stop her from battling it through the 1st and 2nd wod. Glenda, we all admire you and hope you feel better soon. Sarah Brown-AKA “Sarah Brown”. Sarah will make you laugh and make you cry (if you’ve been lucky enough to experience her deep massages). Her hours of squat therapy paid off last weekend for wod 2 and she killed it on the row!! She did awesome!! She also took good care of us through our training by offering us massages at a reduced rate. Your the best Sarah!! Last but not least, I want to thank everyone who came out and supported us . Your encouraging words, hugs, cheers helped us all get through the weekend. Also, thankyou to Dr. Rob Green who we were so fortunate to have with us the entire weekend.Skill/Strength component: 3x 10 ghd sit-ups/back extensions

You Are Beautiful
If I were feeling a little more lawless, I’d gather all the copies of Cosmo and Seventeen, douse them in kerosene, and strike a match. I’d throw in reams of print ads from Calvin Klein and watch with delight as Kate Moss’ stick-thin image was reduced to carbon. I’d add copies of Shape until the flames reached toward the heavens, and then I’d crank call the editorial desk at Muscle and Fitness until they stopped publishing pictures of women on steroids.
I’d get the master tapes of America’s Next Top Model and dub over them with “Nasty Girls”, broadcasting the results on every television station in America.
I’d take every woman with mass media-induced ideals of beauty, and I’d show them what it really means to be beautiful.
Beautiful women are strong and powerful. They are athletes, capable of every feat under the sun. They have muscles, borne of hard work and sweat. They gauge their self-worth through accomplishments, not by the numbers on the bathroom scale. They understand that muscle weighs more than fat, and they love the fact that designer jeans don’t fit over their well-developed quads.
They know that high repetitions using light weights is a path to mediocrity, and “toning” is a complete and utter myth. They refuse to succumb to the marketers that prey on insecurity, leaving the pre-packaged diet dinners and fat-burning pills on the shelf to pass their expiration date.
Beautiful women train with intensity. The derive self-image from the quality of their work and their ability to excel. They don’t wear makeup to the gym, and they wouldn’t be caught dead with a vinyl pink dumbbell. They move iron, they do pull-ups, they jump, sprint, punch, and kick, and they use the elliptical machine—as a place to hang their jump rope.
They spend their weekends in sport, climbing walls, winning races, and running rivers. They laugh as they sprint circles around the unschooled, turning the image-obsessed into benchwarmers. Beautiful women don’t care if they’re soaked in sweat and covered in dirt, if their nails are chipped or their hair out of place. They care only about quality of life.
Beautiful women are happy, healthy, and strong, and they’re right there beside me, tossing conventional beauty on the ever-growing flames of what used to be.
Be beautiful

We had another great turnout for our 2nd 5k time trial on Sunday. Everyone put in a awesome effort and many p.b.’s were made. Tracey and Vicky both p.b’d by over 3 minutes. After the run , everyone indulged in an amazing spread of Paleothic food. It was much better than the typical post race menu of dry bagels, bananas and apples. Check out the Paleo challenge blog for some great recipes.
